Bill & Teri
Robinett's 1972 Mustang Convertible
Their
Mustang was purchased by Teri Conry Robinett in the spring of 1972 when she
graduated from Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. She bought it from
a friend when it had about 400 miles on it. Teri owned a 64&1/2 Mustang
convertible that was powder blue with a white top three-speed car. The
64&1/2 had originally came from Colorado and had a lot of rust. She wanted
to replace it. When she saw the 72 She fell in love with the color, power
and the styling of the car. After several years Teri sold the car to her
boyfriend (now husband; Bill). The car is equipped with a 351 Cleveland
Engine, a 4 Speed transmission and Power Steering. The car has remained
pretty much stock over the years with only a few dress up items added when
Bill got "Trophy Itus" in the early years of our car shows. Teri had given
Bill a set of wire wheels for Christmas one year and they are still on the
car today. Bill has also added a front and rear spoiler to dress it up a
little bit.
Bill
was driving the Mustang one beautiful day in 1989 and parked to have lunch.
When he returned to the vehicle he noticed a flyer that had been left in the
seat announcing a meeting to be held to discuss the formation of a classic
car club. As it turned out, Darren Houk was the indivdual who had left the
flyer on behalf of the organizers, namely Darren, Sonny Branson and Mike
Cole (now deceased). Teri and Bill attended the meeting that was held at
Spring Creek Bar B Que Restaurant on Hwy. 80 and became the first members of
the "Westside Classic Cruisers"
To
that day, the Mustang had been primarily parked in the garage "gathering
dust" as Bill tells it. They saw participation in the club as an opportunity
to use the car. So they signed up at the meeting and paid their $20.00
membership fee.
From
that point on they attended regular meetings that were packed, lively and
fun-filled. The Westside Classic Cruisers, as the club was named, sponsored
car shows and as members, we gathered as a group to caravan to other shows
throughout the Metroplex and beyond. Little did they know that that was the
beginning of a lot of great fun with a group of individuals who became dear
and lasting friends. And as an added benefit, we thoroughly enjoyed actually
using our beloved Mustang. It's been a great time in our lives. As charter
members, Bill and Teri wish to extend their best wishes to the individuals
who are rejuvenating the club.
